The met office has issued an Amber warning for snow and ice across Yorkshire. Temperatures are set to plummet across the UK tonight with the worst affected areas in Scotland.

In our region temperatures could reach as low as minus -5. Heavy snow fall could see up-to 12 cm's on snow even in low lying areas. Most of the snowfall is expected between 4am - 11am.

The snow and ice may cause difficulties for early morning commuters on Friday. Drivers are asked to take extra care and are being advised to only travel if is a necessity. The coldest temperature so far this year has been -13 in Scotland. Weather forcasters are predicting that temperature could be surpassed this evening.

The arctic air is moving in from the North, however the cool air will be a met tomorrow afternoon with mild air moving in from the South which could cause some rain and sleet.
