Selby district council has urged local businesses to utilise the Tour De Yorkshire event to improve its business sales.

It has launched a competition whereby the best dressed shop will win £1000

Tour de Yorkshire

Selby will be hosting the start of stage two of the Tour de Yorkshire.  This will cover a total distance of 175km and will take in the number sights including Selby, Beverley and York.

Stage two, from Selby to York, will have a ceremonial start at 11.20am outside Selby Abbey. Riders will have an 8km neutralised section before the official race start just outside Selby on the A163 at 11.45am. For full details please click here.

The race will take place over the weekend of 1-3 May and is expected to become a key event in the British Cycling calendar. The coverage of the race will be broadcast live on national TV and throughout Europe.

The teams taking part in the UCI-approved 2.1 race have been announced and include Team Sky. We are also delighted to announce that cycling superstars Bradley Wiggins and Marcel Kittel will also be competing in the race. For more information please click here.

 

Tour de Yorkshire shop front competition

Do you want the chance to win a £1000 cash prize and free full page publicity for your business in the Selby Times, Goole Times, Selby Courier and Goole Courier newspapers?

To celebrate the town’s part in the first ever Tour de Yorkshire in May we have teamed up with the Selby Times and the Selby Town Enterprise Partnership (STEP) to launch the competition to encourage shops and businesses to decorate their premises for the event.

All you have to do is:

1. Dress up your shop front / window to celebrate the arrival of the Tour de Yorkshire in Selby.

2. Once your shop front is decorated take a picture.

3. Then submit your picture to us by sharing this on Twitter tagging @SelbyDC or via Facebook tagging Selby District Council. If you wish you can send your entry via email tocommunications@selby.gov.uk.

Closing date for entries is 5pm Monday April 20.

All entries will be put to a judging panel with the best dressed window entry beingannounced on 30 April via the Selby District Council website and Selby Times paper.

The prize will be awarded to the winner on 2 May (location to be confirmed).

As part of the competition Selby District Council has been working in partnership with the Selby Times and the Selby Town Enterprise Partnership (STEP). The competition prizes have been kindly donated by the Selby Times and the STEP.
