Selby is famous as being the birth place of an english king Henry the 1st, its links with, William the Conqueror, George Washington, Abbott Benedict the founder of one of England's top Abbeys, Selby Abbey and its exciting 900+ years of history. From Selbys iconic Selby Abbey to the emblem of our three swans which can be found in various places around the town to the magnificent river ouse which links our town to York, Hull and Leeds was a vital route traveled on throughout history to bring trade into and out of the town.
And now its official Selby is now a hotspot for buying homes. Lloyds Banking Group undertook research which has found that homes sales in the Selby area have increased by over 48% over the last few years. The results are listed below;
Daventry, East Midlands – 56%
Alfreton, East Midlands – 53%
Pudsey, Yorkshire – 51%
Sutton-in-Ashfield, East Midlands – 50%
Selby, Yorkshire – 48%
Corby, East Midlands – 47%
Margate, South East – 46%
Slough, South East – 45%
Wickford, South East – 44%
Clacton-on-Sea, South East – 44%
The study used data and analysed Land Registry sources to compare the number of property sales in the first 10 months of last year with those in the same period from 2013. The Selby area sales have placed Selby 5th fifth on the nationwide list of towns where property sales are booming.
This is great news for Selby and the people of the town, Selby has had a small surge of new businesses opening in the last year, Olives and Grill restaurant and Deliahs restaurant have graced the town with new contemporary refurbished places to eat. Whilst the Treehouse Bar and restaurant based on Gowthorpe offers a great place to eat grills, sharing platters, steak and enjoy cocktails , beers and champagnes. You can then watch live music at the night and enjoy the party atmosphere. Other places which have opened in the town include, The Venue, live music establishment based on Ousegate.
Selby will also soon enjoy the launch of the new Selby Leisure Centre in March which will have some of the most high tech gym equipment used across the country.
