Selby Town hold league leaders to 1-1 Draw

Selby entertained the league leaders AFC Emley at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium and boy did they entertain the huge crowd. The Robins took the game to their opponents from the off and never let them settle or dictate throughout the game. They were magnificent. Mindful that Emley had a huge win on Saturday they never stopped and it was perhaps no surprise when Selby took the lead with a superb Jamie Forrester shot across the box into the net. Selby were buoyed from that goal and there was good performances all over the pitch. Emley were very fortunate to equalise midway through the half when a cross field ball found Alex Hallam in acres of space miles offside, the flag went up and everyone including Hallam stopped. the referee must have shouted play on because Hallam then continued and put the ball into the net with much confusion. All hell broke loose, the referee ran over to the assistant who still had his flag raised for a word. Then to Selby's dismay and Emley's delight he allowed the goal to stand. much debate ensued but the referee was adamant and the game eventually got back underway. Selby let it get to them for the rest of the half and were a little fortunate not to concede another as the decision gnawed away at them clearly affecting their play. Once the second half got under way Selby returned to their early dominance and restricted Emley to the odd breakaway which was held at bay by a superb defensive Selby backline. Chris Jackson again showed he can handle himself at this level with another fine forward display. He was replaced late on by Louis Blackwell and it was he who nearly won it for the Robins. A fine move saw Blackwell through one on one with the keeper but as he knocked the ball past him ready to tap in the keeper managed to get a hand on the ball and knock it away from Blackwell's foot. All in all this was a superb display from Selby and to be fair they would taken a point had it been offered to them before kick off. As it was the main talking point will centre around that one decision which is a shame because the game was a lot better with loads of other points to talk about But that's football, the game we love and the games come fast and soon as The Robins entertain another high flying team at home in Rudy Funk's, AFC Mansfield on Saturday
