Emergency service crews have attended an accident near a York supermarket in which a motorist is understood to have suffered a heart attack.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service has confirmed that they received a call at 11.52am today to attend a cardiac arrest at a petrol filling station on Foss Islands Road, and was still at the scene.
North Yorkshire Police said officers were called by the ambulance service to a traffic collision on Foss Islands Road in York at 11.55am.
"A Ford Focus collided with the traffic lights at the turning for Morrisons supermarket," said a force spokesman.
"It is believed that the driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be aged in his 70s, may have taken ill at the wheel. He has been taken to York Hospital."
The road is still closed while officers conducted their inquiries at the scene of the incident. Any whitenesses are advised to call 101 urgently and pass information to the Force Control Room, quoting log number NYP-30122014-0147.
