A barn which was found on fire in Selby yesterday is believed to have been caused by arsonists.

Fire crews from Selby, York, Tadcaster and Snaith were called at 3:23pm to Ouse Bank where they found an empty barn alight.

The barn, measuring 10m by 8m has had severe fire, heat and smoke damage.

Crews used one hose reel jet, a ground monitor, a 45mm hose and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the blaze.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say they believe the cause was deliberate, and they will revisit the barn today.

Also at 01:30am on Sunday a car was set alight on Marsh Lane in Barlow, it is thought this was deliberate and police are appealing for information. The car was destroyed in the fire.

If anyone as any information regarding the two cases please call the police on 101.
